Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC)
About ARIC
The Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) is an advisory committee to Council. It was formerly known as the Internal Audit Committee.
ARIC provides Council with independent assurance (under a Charter) by monitoring, reviewing, and providing oversight of the adequacy and effectiveness of Council’s:
- risk management
- internal control
- internal and external audit
- financial management and
- compliance functions
ARIC Charter
The adopted Charter reflects:
- s428A of the Local Government Act
- the requirements of the Office of Local Governments (OLG) Risk Management and
- Internal Audit Framework guidelines
The committee consists of one Councillor (non-voting) and three external independent members.
The committee is selected through a comprehensive public expression of interest process.
The Chair is an external independent member and holds the casting vote where required.

ARIC Meetings
The committee meets four times a year. One of these meetings is to review and endorse:
- Councils externally audited financial statements and
- the audit opinion of the NSW Audit Office
Extra meetings are scheduled where required.
In line with OLG recommendations these meetings have been closed to the public since 2020. As a result the minutes and agendas are not listed on this website.
The OLG guidelines require that the Chair report to the governing body annually.
The ARIC annual report, outlining the outcomes of the Committee, will be published on this page.
This annual report replaces the minutes, agenda and audio recordings previously made available to the Community.
