Visit Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre at Baulkham Hills to use our Waves Bookshelf.

The Waves Bookshelf contains a collection of new release and popular titles available to members of The Hills Shire Library Service.

Not a library member? No problem! To join the library, please visit one of our library branches in person and bring two forms of identification with you. One must include proof of a current NSW address, such as a driver's license, rates notices or utility account. It takes just a few minutes to join.

Only items borrowed from the Waves Bookshelf can be returned to the Waves Bookshelf. Items borrowed from a library branch need to be returned to a branch of The Hills Shire Library Service.

To borrow a book

  • Scan your library barcode on your card or in the app
  • Stand clear of the opening door
  • Browse and remove any books you wish to borrow
  • Door will automatically close after 90 seconds, or press the green button to close the door
  • Stand clear of the closing door
  • Loans will confirm on the screen.

To return a book

  • Scan your library barcode on your card or in the app
  • Stand clear of the opening door
  • Place your returns on the shelves spine facing out
  • Door will automatically close after 90 seconds, or press the green button to close the door
  • Stand clear of the closing door
  • Returns will confirm on the screen.

Not at this time. The Waves Bookshelf is a standalone collection; however we are working on cross compatibility between the library and Waves collections.

Can I pay my fines on the Waves Bookshelf?

No, there are no payment facilities on the Waves Bookshelf. However, you can:

Can I renew my books on the Waves Bookshelf?

No, the Waves Bookshelf does not have any renewal capabilities. We recommend you download and renew through the library app. Alternatively you can contact the Library on 9761 4520 during opening hours to renew over the phone, or log into our Library Catalogue to renew your items.

I scanned my card and it said to contact the library. What's wrong?

Contact the Library on 9761 4520 during opening hours and our staff can check your library account to see what the issue may be.

Do you have books for kids in the Waves Bookshelf?

Yes, there is a collection of new and popular titles including picture and chapter books, suitable for children.

Can I get a receipt for what I borrow or return in the Bookshelf?

Yes, after you complete your transaction, you can choose to receive a print or email receipt on the screen. It will print a receipt by default unless you choose email.

Can I request items to be picked up from the Bookshelf?

No. The Waves Bookshelf is designed to be a browsing collection and is not able to support reservations. If you would like to pick up a reservation, you can select any one of our 4 libraries as a pick-up location, or you can take advantage of the 24/7 click and collect lockers available outside of Baulkham Hills Library, which can be used after-hours and are only a short drive from Waves.

Can I search the Waves Bookshelf through the Library App or Library Catalogue?

No. The Waves Bookshelf is designed to be a browsing collection. To view what is in the collection, you will need to visit the Bookshelf and open the door to browse.

Do you have a specific title in the Waves Bookshelf?

The Waves Bookshelf has a rotating collection of new and popular titles, so if what you are looking for is new, it is probably in the collection, but it may be out on loan.

How are my items returned?

Only items borrowed from the Waves Bookshelf can be returned to the Bookshelf. All you need to do is scan your card, return your items on the shelf and press the green button to shut the door. The Bookshelf will check the inventory and return the items on your card.

How many items can I borrow from the Bookshelf?

There is a limit of 10 items per card, the same as in the library.

Can I put items back if I change my mind?

Absolutely. If the door is still open, just place the items back on a shelf that has some room. If the door has shut, scan your card again to open the door and once open, you can place it on a shelf. Tap the green button to close and the Bookshelf will update.
