Step 1.Talk to your neighbour

If your neighbour’s dog is barking and causing a nuisance, your first step should be to approach your neighbours or leave them something in writing advising them of the problem if you think they are unapproachable or not home often.

Below is an example of one such letter that could assist you if you decide to write to your neighbour regarding the barking dog:

Step 2.Law Access NSW

Law Access NSW provides information about how to resolve disputes and what to do where an agreement cannot be reached between parties. You may find more detailed information on the Law Access NSW website here. You may also contact them between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, via 1300 888 529.

Lodge Complaint (click)

Lodge a complaint with Council

If all else fails, you can lodge a formal complaint with Council.

Once lodged, Council with notify the owner of your complaint and will provide them with an educational pack on barking dogs and the law.
