A toilet block at Ironbark Ridge Reserve was completely gutted by fire overnight.
NSW Fire and Rescue are still investigating the cause of the blaze. The toilet block has been the subject of 33 acts of graffiti and vandalism over the past 12 months, including 5 reported fires.
Council’s General Manager Dave Walker said it’s incredibly disappointing to see a community asset worth tens of thousands of dollars destroyed.
“NSW Fire and Rescue are still investigating the cause of the blaze, but given the history of this toilet block, it’s only natural to suspect arson may have been a cause,” Mr Walker said.
“If investigators do discover this blaze was the result of arson, it’s one of the worst acts of vandalism I’ve seen throughout my career in Local Government.”
“We’ve seen far too many mindless acts of vandalism throughout the Shire recently and I call on the community to report anything suspicious they see at public parks and reserves.”
“If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious at Ironbark Ridge Reserve last night, I urge them to call The Hills LAC on 9680 5399.”
