Dural-based business Laservision are creators of unique and unforgettable sensory experiences that have become a global phenomenon from Dubai to Singapore.
They’ve partnered with Council to bring their latest light and sound show home to The Hills for the first time – Echoes at Bella Vista Farm. Echoes will light up the Farm until Monday 6 October, reimagining the heritage homestead’s history like never before.
CEO of Laservision, Shannon Brooks provided insight into the local business’ success and what it means to see one of their acclaimed productions on home turf.
How did the idea of Laservision and the sensory experiences come about?
Shannon: We saw there was a genuine need in the marketplace to create experiences that go beyond just the sight sensory. Audiences were craving more, and the way to achieve this was to design nightly experiences that touched on all the senses—sight, sound, touch, and even smell - creating truly immersive and memorable journeys.
The idea was spurred on during COVID, when people had been isolated in their homes and there was an urgent need to reconnect communities, bring people back together, and reignite public spaces with experiences that would restore joy and belonging. We wanted to give people a reason to come out again, to share moments with one another, and to create enduring memories that couldn’t be replicated on a screen.
At its core, Laservision was born out of a passion for storytelling and innovation. By blending art and technology, we realised we could reimagine environments, transform landmarks, and celebrate culture in a way that resonates emotionally with audiences. Over time, this vision has evolved into delivering world-class sensory experiences that not only entertain but also foster unity, civic pride, and economic uplift for communities around the world.
Tell us where you’ve taken the shows around the world?
Shannon: Over the years, Laservision’s unique attractions and immersive experiences have been enjoyed across the globe, ranging from one-night spectaculars to permanently installed world-class shows. We’ve had the privilege of creating landmark experiences in destinations such as Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Macau, Qatar, Malaysia, Singapore, and Korea - transforming iconic locations into stages for unforgettable storytelling.
Equally, we are proud of the impact we’ve made here at home in Australia. Our sensory experiences have lit up both major cities and regional communities, reaching audiences in Cairns, Brisbane, Shellharbour, Albury, Darwin, Rockhampton, Melbourne, Joondalup, Cobram Barooga, and of course, Bella Vista. Whether abroad or within Australia, our mission remains the same: to craft extraordinary experiences that connect people, celebrate culture, and leave lasting memories.
Laservision operates internationally with offices in Hong Kong and Dubai and shows in places like Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Vietnam – why have you chosen to keep your headquarters in Dural?
Shannon: While Laservision has grown into a truly global company, our roots are proudly in Dural. This is where the company was founded more than 40 years ago, and it continues to be the creative heart of our operations. Our headquarters houses not only our leadership team but also our government-approved R&D facility, where much of our pioneering technology is designed, engineered, and tested before it reaches destinations around the world.
Dural offers us the perfect balance: a peaceful, community-driven environment that fosters creativity and innovation, yet close enough to Sydney to remain globally connected. We’ve always believed that world-class creativity doesn’t need to come from a capital city—it can be born in local communities and still shine on the world stage.
Keeping our headquarters here is also a way of giving back. We’re proud to provide jobs, training, and opportunities for people in our local community, while exporting Australian creativity and technology to audiences worldwide.
What advice would you offer to businesses who would like to operate internationally?
Shannon: My advice would be:
- Do your homework – every market has its own cultural nuances, regulations, and business practices. Take the time to research and understand the environment you’re entering so you can anticipate challenges and show respect for local ways of doing business.
- Embrace new cultures and challenges – don’t be afraid of differences. Each culture has its own rhythm, values, and traditions. Approaching them with curiosity and humility not only opens doors but also strengthens relationships.
- Be patient and flexible – international growth takes time, and operating across borders means adapting to different expectations, working styles, and bureaucratic processes. What works in one country may not work in another. Flexibility and an open mindset are essential.
- Learn to be a problem solver – challenges are inevitable, but those who succeed are the ones who can think creatively, adapt quickly, and find solutions rather than roadblocks.
- Build strong local partnerships – success abroad often comes from working with trusted local allies who can guide you through unfamiliar territory and help you earn credibility.
- Stay true to your identity – while adapting is important, never lose sight of what makes your business unique. That’s the value you bring to the global market.
- Invest in relationships – more than contracts or transactions, sustainable success comes from trust, collaboration, and genuine respect for clients, partners, and communities.
For Laservision, this approach has allowed us to deliver projects across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond, while still keeping our creative heart in Australia. The world is increasingly connected, and with the right mix of preparation, patience, flexibility, and problem-solving, any business can find its place on the global stage.
Why is Echoes at Bella Vista Farm important to you?
Shannon: Echoes – Luna Light Journey at Bella Vista Farm holds a very special place for us, both personally and professionally. On one level, it’s about continuing our mission to create world-class immersive experiences that connect people with their surroundings. But at Bella Vista, it’s also about celebrating our roots and giving back to the community that has supported Laservision for more than four decades.
Bella Vista Farm is a heritage-listed site, rich with history, stories, and natural beauty. Bringing our sensory storytelling here allows us to honour that history while reimagining it for today’s audiences through light, sound, and immersive technology. It’s a chance to breathe new life into the Farm and share its cultural significance with a new generation of visitors.
How do events like Echoes contribute to the local community and economy in The Hills Shire?
Events like Echoes play a powerful role in shaping both community spirit and economic vitality within The Hills Shire. By transforming Bella Vista Farm into a canvas of light, sound, and storytelling, the event positions The Hills as a destination in its own right—a place people travel to not just for the show, but for the broader cultural and leisure experiences it inspires. This type of destination-making strengthens the region’s profile on the tourism map and creates a sense of pride for local residents.
Economically, Echoes brings a much-needed night-time economy to the area. Visitors who attend don’t just experience the show—they dine in local restaurants, stay in nearby accommodation, and shop in surrounding precincts. This extended economic activity generates direct benefits for local businesses and supports jobs across hospitality, retail, and tourism services.
From a community perspective, the event creates a buzz atmosphere that energises the whole region. Families, friends, and visitors gather together, sharing the excitement of an outdoor cultural event under the stars. This sense of vibrancy and celebration strengthens social bonds, enhances civic identity, and encourages people to reconnect with their community spaces in new and meaningful ways.
Echoes is more than just entertainment - it’s a catalyst for cultural connection, destination branding, and economic uplift that will continue to benefit The Hills Shire long after the final lights fade.
