Meet the 2022 Hills Shire Youth Ambassadors
Published on 26 April 2022
Rebeeca Yu and Hayley Mogilin have been announced as this year’s Hills Shire Youth Ambassadors.
Council’s Youth Ambassador Program encourages young people to play an important role in representing youth in The Hills Shire, including involvement in community events, participation at Council functions and a leadership role with young volunteers.
Youth Ambassadors may also be selected to advise on committees, attend service networks or represent young people at functions and events.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi welcomed the new ambassadors.
“Congratulations to Hayley and Rebecca for being selected to take on the role of Hills Youth Ambassador,” Mayor Gangemi said.
“Both Hayley and Rebecca bring a high level of community involvement to the role, as well as a genuine desire to represent their peers,” he said.
Prior to being elected to Council, Mayor Gangemi was The Hills Shire’s Youth Ambassador, and as such is particularly excited to see what Rebecca and Hayley achieve in the position.
“The Youth Ambassador program gives a great platform to reach out to the youth of The Hills. We are looking forward to working with Rebecca and Hayley to better understand the needs and aspirations of young people.”
Mayor Gangemi thanked outgoing Youth Ambassadors Julie Charlton, Munira Tabassum Ahmed and Rory O’Connor for their time in the role.
“Julie, Rory and Munira have contributed so much as Ambassadors – each one becoming highly involved with community activities and developing their understanding of how they can make a difference locally through their actions,” he said.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Julie, Rory and Munira and wish them well in the future.”
Finalists for 2022 included Marcus Campagna, Vanessa Valensise and Kyle O’Connor.
Councillor Jessica Brazier, who has also previously served as a Hills Youth Ambassador, congratulated each of the ambassadors as well as the finalists.
“Congratulations to Rebecca and Hayley, they are incredible role models for our shire. All of our finalists were impressive young people, passionate about the place they live in and the issues affecting youth,” Clr Brazier said.
