Castle Hill Library Celebrates 10 Years
Published on 01 September 2014
Everyone is invited to celebrate The Castle Hill Library’s 10th birthday, with a great line-up of special events.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, officially launched the celebrations with State Member for Baulkham Hills, David Elliott MP, this morning.
“It’s a pleasure to celebrate such a fantastic milestone for Castle Hill Library and reflect on how far we’ve come in a decade,” Mayor Byrne said.
“Our residents value our library service and I’m proud of the way our libraries have evolved to meet the changing needs of the community,” she said.
Since opening our doors, the Castle Hill Library has achieved:
- 6.4 million loans
- 6.3 million visits
- Over 2,000 events including story time for pre-schoolers and baby bounce sessions
- The Friends of the Hills Library volunteer group
- Book clubs and craft groups
- English conversation classes
- Justice of the Peace services
- School holiday activities
The library has also attracted a significant number of international authors to their author talk series including Jodi Picoult, Nicholas Sparks, Paullina Simons, Markus Zusak and Di Morrissey.
“Even before this library was built, people told us they wanted more than just somewhere to borrow a book,” Mayor Byrne said.
“That is what we set out to achieve, and it’s clear that we have created more than a library – we have created a destination, a meeting place, a space to study and learn and somewhere people can feel connected to their community,” she said.
“Congratulations to the staff who work so hard to provide such an excellent service, and I encourage everyone to come to an event and join in the fun.”
