Hills Youth Army
What is the Hills Youth Army?
Founded in 2014, the Hills Youth Army empowers young people (15 - 24 year olds) living in The Hills through various volunteering opportunities within their local community.
The group is for young visionaries interested in volunteering, participating in their local community and forming connections with their peers and the broader community.
The key aims of the Hills Youth Army include involving youth in their community through:
- Volunteer initiatives
- Community participation and events
- Connections with other young people
Why should I join the Hills Youth Army?
The Hills Youth Army aims to connect young people, Council and their community across The Hills Shire through volunteering.
Studies show that volunteering also provides volunteers with:
- A sense of purpose and achievement
- Reduced stress
- Increased self-esteem and wellbeing
- The opportunity to meet and connect with new people
- The opportunity to create a long-lasting positive impact on your community.
Through participation in the group, members are provided with opportunities to become more involved in community initiatives, be of service to others, and develop their social awareness, leadership and problem-solving skills.
Membership in the Hills Youth Army also provides young people with an opportunity to increase community engagement and awareness on what matters most to young people in The Hills Shire. Alongside this, members will be able to create new friendships and enjoy regular networking opportunities with their peers.
Hills Youth Army members can also utilise their participation in the volunteering group for school and community service needs.
What does the Hills Youth Army do?
The Hills Youth Army regularly supports events within the community including:
- Orange Blossom Festival
- Youth Week
- Mental Health Month
- Australia Day
- Clean Up Australia Day
The volunteer group also meets monthly to discuss volunteering opportunities and community initiatives.
