The Hills Shire Council Design Advisory Panel

The Hills Shire Council is seeking experts across the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and heritage to become members of The Hills Design Advisory Panel (the Panel). The purpose of the Panel is to evaluate and provide advice on Development Applications within The Hills Shire Local Government Area (LGA) against design excellence criteria, to ensure new high-density buildings are of high quality design.

Council is seeking to engage Panel members for the term commencing 1 January 2027. Panel meetings will be tentatively scheduled once per month and held on a needs basis.

Selection Criteria

Extensive experience within one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Architecture;
  • Landscape Architecture;
  • Urban Design; or
  • Heritage;
  • Suitable qualification/s so as to be eligible for membership of their relevant professional body;
  • Demonstrated experience or relevant skills to provide expert Panel advice, and liaise with other members of the Panel to prepare joint reports in a timely manner;
  • Demonstrated experience or ability to critically evaluate design elements to achieve high quality design outcomes consistent with relevant planning instruments, policies and development controls;
  • Demonstrated experience with high density development, including residential, mixed-use and commercial development, a comprehensive understanding of master planning on large sites and contemporary urban design practice that supports transitioning urban environments;
  • An informed understanding of the desired future character and built form outcomes of The Hills Shire;
  • Public liability insurance ($20 million), professional indemnity insurance ($5 million) and motor vehicle insurance. 

 

Note: This is a contract role for an initial 24-month tenure, with a potential extension for a further 12 months. 

 

Remuneration for Panel members (excluding GST) is as follows:
