Everyone welcome. No experience necessary!
Volunteers have cleared an area of Privet and other weeds from this area of Cattai Creek Conservation Area Reserve , Kellyville within the ecological communities Sydney Sandstone Gully Forest and the Critically Endangered Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest. There have also been sightings of the Powerful Owl in this area, which is listed as Vulnerable under State legislation.
The activities involve planting, mulching and weeding, which all play a crucial role in maintaining the health and population of native vegetation, that provide stability to the creek banks, decreasing the risk of erosion.
Recently, platypuses have been recorded to be inhabiting the creek. Platypus spend most of their time in burrows dug into the creek banks with their entrances just above water level. Maintaining the creekbank is therefore essential to creating a healthy platypus habitat.
