On 26 March 2024, Council resolved to adopt the Public Domain Strategy, which has now been finalised and is publicly available on Council’s website.
The ‘public domain’ is the space between buildings and places that is accessible to the general public. The public domain can be in public or private ownership and includes both urban and natural elements, as well as the appearance of structures and landscaping which may shape or be visible from the public space (often adjoining the public domain).
The Public Domain Strategy is a strategic document intended to drive better place-making and public domain outcomes. It provides a clear and consolidated set of objectives, principles and best practice guidance that will inform development plans and Council’s decision making with respect to the public domain.
The Public Domain Strategy builds upon the overarching strategies outlined in the NSW Government's directives and Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement.
