With just under 15,000 tennis court bookings made at Council facilities last year, it’s clear that the Sydney Hills has a big appetite for the racquet and ball game.
And with six tennis courts now under Council control at Bernie Mullane Reserve, those bookings are set to grow throughout 2014.
Council will manage the Bernie Mullane Reserve courts where tennis coach Rod Fahey will be running his tennis school on the lookout for the next Australian champion.
Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said that the additional facilities would help residents achieve a fit and healthy lifestyle.
“Joining forces with Rod Fahey will give youngsters the opportunity to develop tennis skills and could help Rod possibly unearth the next Australian champion,” Mayor Byrne said.
“But most importantly, having facilities like this is about giving the wider community every opportunity to be fit and healthy.”
The six floodlit tennis courts have undergone a complete refurbishment with new surfaces and fencing.
