Interactive Kiosk Puts ANZAC Info At Fingertips

A new interactive kiosk will bring the history of conflicts involving Australian soldiers to the fingertips of students at Castle Hill Library.
The touch-screen kiosk, purchased by The Hills Shire Council, contains information, images and video of wars from pre-Federation to modern times.
Hills Shire Deputy Mayor Clr Dr Michelle Byrne said that students were increasingly interested in Australian war history.
“With the Centenary of ANZAC around the corner, we’ve seen levels of interest in Australian war history like never before,” Deputy Mayor Byrne said.
“This is a fantastic resource that will give students the chance to learn about the major conflicts like World War I, World War II and Vietnam, but also more modern conflicts like the Gulf War and Australia’s peacekeeping efforts in East Timor.”
Hills Centenary of ANZAC Committee Member and Hills Shire Clr Dr Jeff Lowe said the unique tool would allow students to trawl between decades in seconds.
“What an excellent resource to have in our library and given that Australian history is an integral part of the school curriculum, this gives students another way to learn,” Clr Lowe said.
Hills Centenary of ANZAC Chairman Don Tait said the kiosk had become available at the right time.
“With the Centenary of the Gallipoli landing around the corner, this is the right time to have a resource like this available to students in The Hills and I thank the Council for making it available,” Mr Tait said.
