How to reduce your waste

Avoiding and reducing waste before it enters your business can help minimise the cost associated with recycling or disposing of waste. The NSW EPA recommends following these principles and asking these questions:

  • Avoid: Do we need it?
  • Reduce: Do we need so much?
  • Reuse: Can we use it again?
  • Recycle: Can someone else use it or can it be converted into something new?

Some examples of ways this can be done include:

  • Working with suppliers to reduce packaging such as buying things in bulk.
  • Using re-fills where possible.
  • Where possible, purchase durable/ good quality items that won’t need to be replaced as frequently.

Why should I recycle?

Recycling is important for businesses for several reasons:

  • Recycling may reduce costs associated with waste disposal
  • Recycling may enhance your businesses reputation
  • Recycling benefits the community and environment
