Free Household Chemical CleanOut Event
The Household Chemical CleanOut is a free service which allows residents to dispose of household chemicals, many of which could cause harm if disposed in a regular garbage collection or tipped down the drain.
The next Household Chemical CleanOut event will be announced later this year.
Household items for collection include:
- Paint and paint related products
- Pesticides and herbicides
- Poisons, solvents and household cleaners
- Fluorescent globes and tubes
- Motor oils and cooking oils
- Fuels and fluids
- Gas bottles
- Fire extinguishers
- Pool chemicals
- Acids and alkalis
- Hobby chemicals
Only household quantities of chemicals are accepted.

The NSW EPA operate Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) across NSW, which can be accessed FREE of charge by all residents throughout NSW, even if out of the hosting Council area. Household quantities (Maximum container size of 20kg or 20L per item) of common household chemicals are accepted at these sites. Used Motor Oil
REMONDIS Resource Recovery Centre at Powers Road, Seven Hills and Wallgrove Road, Eastern Creek will accept up to 20 Litres of used motor oil, free of charge. The Oil is recycled where possible or disposed of responsibly.

Paintback- Australia’s National Waste Paint and Packaging Solution
Paintback is an industry scheme allowing for safe disposal of leftover paint and paint packaging. The program allows for paint to be kept out of landfill and can be accessed FREE of charge by households and trade painters.

Fluorescent Globes and Tubes
Fluorescent globes and tubes, metal halides and HIDs contain toxic chemicals such as mercury. You can recycle these items through the NSW EPA Household Chemical CleanOut events free of charge (details above), or through one of the organisations listed here: http://recyclingnearyou.com.au/light-globes/BaulkhamHillsNSW. Fees may apply.
Household Battery Recycling
Did you know that around 8,000 tonnes of batteries are sent to landfill every year?
Council supports a battery recycling program with the batteries collected and sorted into their respective technologies and recycled locally where possible. This program is available for households in The Hills Shire.
Please help us keep single use and rechargable batteries out of landfill and take them to one of Council's collection points listed below.
Council Collection locations
This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, funded from the waste levy.
Alternatively, household batteries can be taken to Battery World Castle Hill, Unit 2/7-13 Victoria Ave, Castle Hill, NSW (Ph: +61 2 9894 2100).
Old Car Batteries
These can be recycled by taking them to their place of purchase (limits may be applied), or to scrap metal recyclers.
