Polystyrene Foam Disposal Information
Do you have polystyrene foam to dispose of?
Polystyrene foam may only be disposed of through the red lidded garbage bin.
Do Not place polystyrene foam into the yellow lidded recycling bin.
Polystyrene foam should be placed into a bag before being disposed of in the red lidded garbage bin. Loose or large pieces of polystyrene may get wedged in the bin, making it difficult for the truck to empty completely.
For more information about what items can and can't be disposed of via the red lidded garbage bin, click here.
If you have a large amount of polystyrene foam to dispose of, you may like to book in a household kerbside clean-up collection. Polystyrene foam must be bagged or boxed prior to being placed out on the kerbside to prevent it from blowing away.
Alternative Recycling Options
Some Community Recycling Centres also accept polystyrene, such as the centres based in Liverpool and Penrith.
There are a number of organisations accepting polystyrene for recycling. For a directory, please see https://www.recyclingnearyou.com.au/. (Please note that fees may apply).
Please note: Soft plastics, hard plastics and polystyrene can no longer be dropped off at the Hornsby Shire Council Community Recycling Centre in Thornleigh. This service is available for Hornsby Shire residents only, and proof of residency will be required.
