Bin Collection Schedule Changes
- Bin collection days are changing for some Hills Shire residents
- Affected residents were sent a letter in early November
- If you did not receive a letter and do not live in the areas below, you are not impacted by the bin collection day changes
- Affected Suburbs (not every property in these suburbs is affected) - Annangrove, Baulkham Hills, Beaumont Hills, Bella Vista, Box Hill, Castle Hill, Gables, Glenhaven, Glenorie, Kellyville, Maraylya, Nelson, North Kellyville, Norwest, Rouse Hill.
Why is the bin schedule changing?
We have recently reviewed our bin collection schedule with our waste contractor to improve the consistency and reliability of our services to you. The new schedule will streamline bin collection numbers across certain suburbs to address imbalances from our population growth. This means some residents need to have their bin collection day or recycling week changed.
Council has posted a letter detailing the changes to all affected properties.
When do the bin changes begin?
The bin schedule changes begin the week commencing 4 December 2023.
What are the changes?
If your property is affected by the change you will be impacted in one of three ways:
Bin collection day change only
Your bin collection day will change. Your fortnightly collection rotation of your yellow recycling bin and green bin will stay the same.
Recycling week change only
Your current bin collection day will remain the same, but your fortnightly collection rotation of your yellow recycling bin and green bin will swap (note that these services will remain fortnightly on alternate weeks).
Bin collection day change and recycling week change
Your current bin collection day will change and your fortnightly collection rotation of your yellow recycling bin and green bin will swap (note that these services will remain fortnightly on alternate weeks).
The letter you received from Council tells you how you will be affected. You can also search for your address using the interactive map below or by opening the relevant PDF document (below the interactive map) for your suburb to see how you are affected. This information includes advice on whether it is your yellow or green bin week the weeks commencing 4 December and 11 December 2023.
Recycling week areas explained
Council is divided into two areas for yellow and green bin collections (Area 1 and Area 2). These bins are collected fortnightly on alternate weeks. Your area determines which week you place your yellow or green bin out for collection with your red bin. If your recycling week is changing, this means you are switching areas and your fortnightly collection rotation is swapping.

Assistance for residents changing their recycling week
If your recycling week is changing, on the week of the change you can place both your yellow and green bins out for collection to assist with the switch. This will ensure you do not have to wait 3 weeks for your bin to be emptied since the last collection.

FAQs
What is my new collection day? What bins need to go out?
Search for your address using the interactive map or by opening the relevant PDF document for your suburb to see how you are affected. This information includes advice on whether it is your yellow or green bin week the weeks commencing 4 December and 11 December 2023.
From 4 December 2023, you can use our online bin day tracker to find out this information anytime throughout the year.
My address doesn't appear in the PDF list
If you are an affected resident, you would have received a letter in the mail and be listed in the PDF document for your suburb. If you believe there has been an error or you have any concerns, please call Council’s Waste Hotline on 1800 623 895.
Why wasn’t I informed of the change?
Council sent a letter by post in early November advising all affected properties of the change. If you are an affected resident, you would have received this letter in the mail and be listed in the PDF document for your suburb.
Is my bin collection frequency changing?
No, your bin collection frequency will remain the same:
- Red bins collected weekly
- Yellow bins collected fortnightly
- Green bins collected on the alternate fortnight to the recycling.
Why is it being done at this time of the year?
Due to our population growth, the collection schedule has become uneven. There is an immediate need to change the bin collection schedule before Christmas commences to ensure consistency and reliability of our services to you during one of our busiest periods.
Are household kerbside clean-up collections affected?
No, existing household clean-up bookings are not affected. Please place your clean-up items out the night before your scheduled clean-up date.
I have further questions about the changes
