The renovated Heritage Park in Castle Hill was opened to the public on Monday, May 21 following an extensive upgrade of the Park’s playground facilities.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne visited the family-friendly facility with her two-year-old daughters, Maddison and Alexis.

Together they trialled the equipment – making sure it was in tip-top shape.

Mayor Byrne said she was happy to see some of The Shire’s more established parks receive some love and attention.

“Heritage Park has been redesigned for true adventure, while paying homage to our early colonial history,” Mayor Byrne said.

“There’s a large nest swing, a hill slide, bespoke sandstone stepping stones, timber balance beams, a water pump for water play and a fantastic play unit, which makes the improved park dynamic, physically challenging and more importantly – it fosters creative play.

“We’ve also made sure there are toddler and baby swings available after listening to feedback from residents who said mixed swing seating was a priority.

“Overall, the renovated playground ticks all the boxes for me and my family. It’s perfect for families to come together to enjoy a barbecue and picnic, or even to just sit back, relax and watch the kids play in the improve playground,” Mayor Byrne added.

The park’s new facilities include:

  • Flying fox (cable ride);
  • Double bay swing set with baby and toddlers seats;
  • Bespoke timber decks, balance beams and sandstone stepping stones;
  • Water pump for water play;
  • Nest swing;
  • Stainless steel tube slide with shade sail;
  • Three-way spring rocker;
  • Synthetic turf surfacing; and
  • Carousel

Council invested $180,000 towards the playground upgrade.

Apart from Heritage Park, Half Penny Avenue, Gorman Avenue, Guardian Avenue Reserve and Bladensburg Avenue Reserves are set to open to the community in the coming months.
