Keep The Hills Shire looking clean and pristine by taking part in this year’s Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, March 3.

The first Clean Up Australia Day was held in 1990 and it has since become one of the largest community events held in Australia. Over the years, volunteers, businesses and schools have donated more than 33 million hours at over 178,000 locations across the country. Together they have removed the equivalent of 350,000 ute loads of rubbish.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said participants need to find a location they want to clean up and register it or they can join a site that’s already registered by going to the Clean Up Australia Day website.

“Businesses are encouraged to focus their action on Business Clean Up Day on Tuesday, February 26,” she said.

“Schools can run their own Clean Up on Friday, March 1, while community groups are encouraged to join in on the action on Sunday, March 3.

“Council is proud to once again be supporting this environmentally-friendly initiative.

“Together, we can all make a difference,” Mayor Byrne added.
