Join Philip Probets and Become a Volunteer Driver

Do you love driving, meeting new people and have some free time during the week? Become a volunteer driver for Hills Community Care.
Our dedicated volunteer drivers help residents over 65 years of age maintain an independent lifestyle by transporting them from A to B. From medical appointments, to shopping trips, to mystery social outings, the volunteer drivers are committed to ensuring that our senior community members stay connected.
Passionate volunteer driver Philip Probets was inspired by his wife Rosie to get involved with volunteering and become a driver.
“I looked at the options to volunteer and decided on driving as I have always enjoyed driving, and it gives me the chance to meet and help many people,” Philip said.
When asked about his favourite volunteering experience, Philip struggled to pick one.
“Two stand out to me. The first is driving a lady who is approaching 100 years of age and is quite blind and deaf to a specialist physiotherapist. She has a wealth of knowledge and life experience which she shares with me, and I deeply value.
“The second is a gentleman I picked up from the eye clinic at Westmead, who had his cataracts removed and was absolutely joyful that his sight had been restored.”
Philip strongly encouraged others to volunteer as a driver.
“You get to drive around our lovely Shire and meet so many interesting people with great stories who are so thankful for your help.
“You also get looked after by Council with invitations to plays, movies, and Christmas parties, you get free first aid training, and most importantly, you get to be part of a team dedicated to helping people in the Shire.”
Flexible hours are available from Monday – Friday between 8am and 4pm. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer driver, contact us on 02 9761 7606 or email hcc@thehills.nsw.gov.au
