In addition to regular preschool storytimes and baby bounce sessions, The Hills Shire Library Service now has some very special storytimes on offer.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi, said library storytimes were designed to encourage a lifelong love of books and reading in children.

“Sharing stories, reading out loud and discovering new ideas in books all contribute positively to a child’s development,” Mayor Gangemi said.

“I’m proud to announce that we have recently introduced sensitive storytime for neurodivergent children, allowing parents and children to access storytime in an appropriate way,” he said.

“We are also working hard to ensure our newer communities can access library storytimes and I’m delighted that we can now offer outreach services in Box Hill and Gables.

“I encourage everyone to explore the range of storytimes and baby bounce sessions our library has on offer.”

Preschool Storytimes and Baby Bounce run weekly at all Shire libraries during school terms and are offered free of charge. Special storytimes, also free, include the following:

Sensitive Storytime

A sensory, sensitive storytime for neurodivergent children 0-5 years of age, that includes stories, songs and a variety of sensory experiences. Participation is limited to 10.

Christmas Storytimes

These Christmas-themed stories, songs, and craft activities are suitable for children over two years and will be held at Dural Library, Baulkham Hills Library, Castle Hill Library, Vinegar Hill Memorial Library and Wheelie Park at Gables throughout December.

Starting kindy in 2023? Celebrate this important milestone with stories about starting school for the first time from 12 to 19 January at all Shire libraries.
