The Hills Shire Council, with the support of the NSW Government, is planning to transform an underutilised corridor in Castle Hill into a new recreational green hub for local residents.

As part of preliminary discussions, it is envisaged, Cattai Creek Corridor, located between Middleton Avenue and Showground Road, will have new pathways, seating and connections for pedestrians and cyclists so that it can become a well-used community facility once revitalisation works are complete.

The project will also see environmentally sensitive and valuable ecological areas protected, and the creek line rehabilitated.

“The creek corridor is located within a Precinct which is undergoing growth and transformation following the delivery of the Sydney Metro Northwest,” Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said.

“Improvements to be made along the corridor will provide further opportunities to increase access to the creek line and onto Castle Hill Showground, the Hills Showground Metro station, as well as into residential streets and existing open spaces at Cockayne and Fred Caterson Reserves.

“As we grow, it’s increasingly important that we retain and protect our green spaces. It’s also paramount that residents, especially those who will be living in higher density housing in the future, have access to these valuable sites for active and passive recreation.

“I’m really proud of the work Council is doing to ensure residents live their best possible quality of life and I can’t wait to see this project come to fruition,” Mayor Byrne added.

Expressions of interest were sought by Council to begin master planning the corridor. Council will now shortlist successful applicants and invite them to submit a tender for the project.

“This was made possible thanks to the NSW Government providing $5 million as part of the Sydney Precinct Support Scheme to begin the Landscape Master Plan of the Cattai Creek Corridor," Mayor Byrne added.
