The Hassabalnaby family was among 208 new Australian citizens making the pledge during one of Council’s citizenship ceremonies held in February and March.

The family, who were of Egyptian descent, joined more than five million others who have chosen to become Australian citizens since the first-ever citizenship ceremony held in 1949.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said she was pleased that so many had chosen to pledge their love and devotion to Australia, as well as set-up home in The Hills Shire.

“We are so fortunate to live in a truly special part of Sydney,” Mayor Byrne said.

“The Hills is renowned for its vast open spaces, top schools, its family-friendly areas and we have a world class business park.

“Our community is a truly giving one and it’s all thanks to the wonderful people committed to making our region a great one.

“I look forward to working with our newest Australian citizens to continue The Hills’ reputation as a great place to live, work, raise a family and enjoy life,” Mayor Byrne added.
