More than 6,000 residents and visitors made their way to Bella Vista Farm for this year’s Orange Blossom Festival Community Fun Day on Sunday, September 16, 2018.

And after much praise, Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne has called the calendar favourite, which celebrates everything that’s great about living in The Hills, a “success”.

“The enthusiastic participation of dozens of community organisations and the people who attended the annual festival highlighted that after 49 years, the Orange Blossom Festival Community Fun Day remains relevant and important to people. It has lost none of its zest and is an essential opportunity for groups to promote what they do, their activities and features, and more importantly, the festival provides an outlet for residents to just have fun,” Mayor Byrne said.

“The special day also allows Council to acknowledge our talented, generous and committed residents who continue to mould and shape our region.

“Our locals put on an incredible display when they took to the Local Blooms stage and performed their well-crafted acts. I was astonished by their efforts and workmanship, as well as the sense of pride that was shown for our region.

“A major highlight for me was enjoying the rides with my daughters, Maddison and Alexis. My mother and I literally took the girls down the giant slide at least ten times. The big smiles and the joy shown by my daughters reminded me just how important this day is for families.

“But the weekend would not have been a success without the very generous contributions made by our community's volunteers and all the community groups who helped to organise the smooth running of the Festival. By joining in, they’ve displayed the true spirit of community that makes our spectacular area a friendly, inclusive and wonderful place to work, grow, live and raise a family,” Mayor Byrne added.

While Council’s Community Fun Day has wrapped up for 2018, there are plenty more events for the community to enjoy as part of the Orange Blossom Festival, including the inaugural Hills District Light The Night, the Rotary Club of Castle Hill’s Cross Country Challenge, The Sydney Hills Garden Competition and Presentation Evening, and plenty of walks and story times.
