Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne is proud to announce Blackout Theatre Company will open the new and improved Pioneer Theatre with a performance season of Singin’ In The Rain.

“Blackout Theatre has been entertaining audiences around the state for almost two decades, with their annual program which features a combination of musicals, plays, cabaret shows and pantomimes,” Mayor Byrne said.

“We are so excited to have them opening our refreshed 350-seat boutique venue in October.

“I can’t wait and I encourage residents to grab their tickets to the first-ever show in our new theatre when they go on sale, because they will be snapped up fast,” Mayor Byrne added.

Blackout Theatre’s Treasurer John Hanna said the Pioneer Theatre provided the perfect venue to showcase their newest production.

“The Pioneer Theatre is the perfect space for the variety and scale of our productions and we are very excited to be launching this amazing venue with our musical,” Mr Hanna said.

“We are also looking forward to staging our future productions at the Pioneer Theatre in the years to come.”

The centre stage production of Singin’ In The Rain is packed full of old school tinseltown glamour, humour, drama and romance.

It tells the story of the first Hollywood musical, when silent movies were ditched for those with sound.

If you would like the opportunity to star in this production, Blackout Theatre are holding auditions on May 13 to May 16. For more information, visit

Council is now calling for expressions of interest for organisations to stage a range of productions between October to December 2018, that will give an indication of how the theatre performs for a variety of acts. For this opening period, the regular venue hire fee will be waived for successful applicants.
