Frequently Asked Questions

As at 23 October 2020.

These FAQs relate to changes to our services due to the closure of all Hills Shire Libraries as a result of the COVID-19 situation, and the subsequent staged reopening of branches. 

Are the libraries open?

Yes

All libraries are open for borrowing and returning items as well as picking up Click & Collect requests. Printing and copying services are available as well as public computers (Bookings required).

Will there be conditions of entry I need to follow when visiting the library?

Yes you will need to follow these conditions of entry or you will be asked to leave the library.

Can I borrow a book?

Members can borrow physical books through our Click & Collect serviceYou can also come into the library and borrow during library opening horus.

Which libraries can I collect my books from?

The Click & Collect service is available from all library branches.

How many books can I borrow?

Our borrowing limit is set to 10 items.

Can I return borrowed items now?

Yes. Return facilities are available 24/7 at all of our Hills Shire Libraries

Can I print?

Yes, printing is now available at all of the Hills Shire Libraries. To make your printing easy, download the Hills Shire Library App and upload your printing before you come! 

Can I use a computer?

Yes, we now have limited public computers available for 60minute pre-booked sessions.  See staff in the library or contact us on 9761 4520 to book. 

Is there study space available?

Yes, from Monday 26 October you will be able to book a table at Castle Hill or Vinegar Hill Memorial Library at Rouse Hill. Study sessions are for 3 hours and available for individual, silent study only. Session times are 9.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 4.30pm Monday – Saturday and 1.30-4.30pm Sunday. Furniture will be cleaned between sessions.

If I am unwell, can I come to the library?

No, please do not come to the library if you are unwell.

Can I get my books delivered?

If you are over the age of 65 and live in the local government area, you can access our Stay Home & Read service.

What can I expect when I come to the library?

To keep our communities safe, we will be observing public health guidelines including physical distancing. This means you can expect to see signs, floor markings and hand sanitiser.

Capacity limits will also apply. If the library reaches its capacity, you will have to wait for someone to leave before you can enter.

You must practise good hygiene and use hand sanitiser when entering.

What is The Hills Shire Library Service doing to sanitise books and other items?

As per NSW Health guidelines, library items are quarantined for 24 hours upon return before being wiped over with disinfectant and then re-shelved.

Hard, high touch surfaces (Such as door handles, railings and self-check kiosks) will be cleaned and disinfected regularly throughout the day.
