2019 has been a year of new beginnings. On October 4, my family welcomed our new daughter into the world – a sister for four-year old twins Alexis and Maddison, who are delighted with our new arrival. We are incredibly blessed.
As I think about our new baby and preschool aged twins, I believe we are in a great place to ensure a vibrant future for all our children. Our Shire is growing, and more people are coming to enjoy the wonderful quality of life we have here in The Hills, but Council is planning now for growth and making sure we have everything we need for our residents.
We are finalising our new Local Strategic Planning Statement, a key plan that provides a vision and strategy about the future of The Hills that will guide growth and development through to 2036.
We have kicked goals with a number of key projects for our community, including selecting a concept plan for the creation of a brand new aquatic centre on the site of the 50-year-old Waves pool that will serve our community well into the future, and begun the preparation of a masterplan for a refreshed Castle Hill Showground precinct.
And we are looking closely at the capacity our treasured community places, including libraries and sporting fields, to ensure the current and future demand for these is met.
Bella Vista Farm has grown as a favourite destination for activities that bring our community together, and I’m looking forward to celebrating Christmas in The Hills, Shakespeare in The Park and Australia Day with you here this summer.
The Farm is also attracting some excellent national events including The Red Hot Summer Tour in February next year, and I hope you get the opportunity to make the most of such high-level entertainment so close to home.
On behalf of my family and myself, we wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year – and I look forward to continuing to serve our community as Mayor in 2020.
