At its meeting of Council on Tuesday 12 April 2022, Council resolved to place the Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan on public exhibition.
The NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (DIA) mandates the need for local councils to develop Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAP) for their Local Government Area.
Accordingly, a Hills Shire Disability Inclusion Action Plan July 2022-June 2026 has been prepared and is on exhibition for public comment.
To inform the Draft DIAP, engagement activities were conducted during the last quarter of 2021 with a strong emphasis on consultation with people with disability.
There are four key outcome areas that are mandated by the NSW Government be addressed in the Plan:
- Positive Community Attitudes and Behaviour This is about positive Council and community attitudes and behaviours towards people with disability.
- Liveable Communities This is about Council and the community continuing to make our Shire easier to live in, to get involved in and to be part of for people with a disability.
- Supporting Access to Meaningful Employment This is about Council and the community encouraging more employment opportunities for people with a disability.
- Accessible Systems & Processes This is about continuing to improve the experience of Council services for people with a disability.
