The Hills Shire Council is pleased to announce a playground upgrade at Turon Avenue Reserve, Baulkham Hills. The proposed playground has been designed in accordance with Councils’ Recreation Strategy, 2019, for a local-suburban level park and will feature a range of informal recreation opportunities including:
- A playground catering for a wide range of ages and abilities
- Gathering and picnic areas including park furniture
- A turf kick-about area
- Concrete pathway linking to the existing pathway network as well as a pathway leading to the corner of Turon Avenue and Lisgar Avenue (where funding permits)
- Shade sails to playground area
- Selected areas of post and rail fencing
- Planting of trees and native plant species
As part of the playground upgrade, Council is proposing to relocate the playground area from its current location to the area south of Lisgar Avenue, as shown in the below plan. This will allow the new playground to be located on flatter ground, making it more accessible for people of all abilities. The playground will also be located in proximity to other park facilities such as the BMX track.

As part of the community consultation process, Council is providing the local community with the opportunity to give feedback on the proposed playground design.
Following the completion of the community consultation period and design process, Council anticipates construction of the playground to commence later in the 2020-21 Financial Year.
Submissions have now closed.
Council has reviewed all feedback received during the community consultation period. The design presented at the consultation stage was generally well supported by the community and Council therefore intends to proceed with the current design.
During the consultation period Council received a number of requests for a larger playground area with more play equipment. In accordance with Council's Recreation Strategy, larger scale playgrounds are generally considered for district or subregional level parks which attract people from a larger catchment area. Turon Avenue Reserve is a local suburban level park and has been designed accordingly. This level of open space includes facilities beyond a standard local park including shade sails, selected areas of rubber soft fall, and additional play equipment.
There were also a number of requests for park facilities that are considered beyond a playground upgrade. These facilities include public amenities, outdoor fitness equipment, sporting infrastructure, and barbeques. Funding currently available is identified for the playground upgrade and unfortunately it does not extend to the provision of additional park facilities. These facilities will be considered should future funding be identified for the site.
At this stage it is anticipated the construction of the playground upgrade will commence in mid-2021.
