George Thornton Reserve Field Extension & Upgrade

The Hills Shire Council will soon commence construction of the George Thornton Reserve Field extension in partnership with Greater Cities Sports Facility.

The project will increase the size of the playing field area in the western portion of the facility to accommodate an additional full sized sports field.

The new additional field will be terraced 2m lower than the two existing fields which will result in three rectangular senior sized natural turf playing fields and a premier competition level standard cricket ground.

The work also includes:

  • Re-sizing and realignment of the two existing playing fields.
  • A new synthetic cricket pitch and cricket practice nets.
  • New field irrigation and drainage with an additional water harvesting tank.
  • New sportsfield lighting to all fields.
  • Ball stop fencing.
  • Sandstone Retaining wall construction with planting and bush regeneration works.

 

Current Works:

  • Continued retaining wall construction.
  • Bulk earthworks.
  • Spoil removal.
  • Underground service installation.
