Amended Draft Landscape Master Plan – Bernie Mullane Sports Complex

Council at its meeting on 27 September 2016 resolved to place on Public Exhibition an amended version of the Draft Landscape Master Plan for the Bernie Mullane Sports Complex in Marella Avenue, Kellyville.

The Draft Master Plan has been prepared for Bernie Mullane Sports Complex to assist in catering for future urban growth and Council’s on-going needs, and has incorporated a number of comments and suggestions submitted by the community following the initial consultation period in July/August 2016.

The key components identified in the amended Draft Master Plan are:

  • Replacing fields one and two with synthetic grass
  • Extension to the existing Indoor Recreation Centre
  • Water Play Area and upgrade to existing Playground
  • Provision of a Dog Off-leash Area
  • Decommissioning and reconstruction of the dam to address its structural deficiencies
  • Provision of extra car parking

Additional works include new pathways, provision of new park furniture, upgrade to floodlighting, pathway lighting, provision of exercise/fitness stations and landscaping.

The construction of synthetic fields is envisaged to be the first stage of the redevelopment.

Given the expected population growth as a result of the adjacent rail corridor, significant extra demand will be placed on Council to provide more playing fields. The most cost efficient method of meeting this demand is to better utilise the facilities Council already manages rather than purchasing additional land at significantly greater costs. The upgrade of existing turf playing fields to synthetic surfaces is an appropriate method of increasing capacity.
