Holiday Reading Adventure
Calling all children 5 to 16 years old! You are invited to ‘Read on the Wild Side’ at the Library. Simply join the Holiday Reading Adventure from Tuesday 1 December to Sunday 31 January 2010, collect a log book on your first visit, then collect a lucky dip and sticker on every third visit.
To go in the draw to win exciting prizes and tickets to an awesome end of adventure show, simply hand in your log book at the end of the adventure.
What are you waiting for - rush in for fun and prizes at the library!
Friends of the Hills Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Hills Library held their ‘Another Bargain Book Sale’ at Baulkham Hills Library recently raising over $200 which will go towards new library resources.
The Hills Shire Library Service would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time to help out during the book donation days and the book sale.
Membership renewals are open for 2009/2010 so if you are already a Friend’s member or want to become a member drop into any Hills Shire Library to renew your membership for $5 per annum. Membership entitles you to:
· Automatic membership to The Hills Shire Library Service
· One free reservation per month (saving of $1.30 per month)
· Volunteer activities at the library
· A discount at the following local businesses:
House of Fraser (Castle Towers)
Chapters Cafe (Castle Hill Library)
Lyn's fine needlework, patchwork and quilting (Baulkham Hills)
Returns Made Easy
Vinegar Hill Memorial Library books can now be returned through the returns chutes at all branches during opening hours and after hours.
Keep an eye out later in the year for library Christmas/New Year opening hours.
All branches closed Tuesday 26 January Australia Day public holiday.

Good Reading Magazine is online!
Good Reading is an Australian magazine with information on “everything about books” including thousands of easy to read independent book reviews and lots of interesting Australian and International articles, author profiles, bookshops, short stories, book trivia and more.
This magazine is available to access in the library and from home with a Hills Shire Library membership number.

Depression: Living with a Black Dog
Join author Matthew Johnstone as he discusses his latest book ‘Living With a Black Dog’. It is a must have guide for family, friends and colleagues of depression sufferers. Matthew will focus on male depression and discuss how to recognise the symptoms and how to help loved ones.

Bilingual Storytime at Carlingford

Justice of the Peace Service
A Justice of the Peace is available at:
· Rouse Hill on Tuesdays (10am - 1pm),
· Castle Hill on Tuesdays and Thursdays (10am - 1pm)
· Baulkham Hills on Thursdays (10am - 1pm)
· Carlingford on Saturdays (10am -12.30pm).
No bookings necessary.
Australia Day Celebrations
The Hills Shire Council is holding Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2010 at Balcombe Heights Estate - 92 Seven Hills Road, Baulkham Hills (opp. Jasper Road Public School).
From 2pm there will be stalls, entertainment for all ages, skate competition, art exhibition, children's activities, rides, affirmation ceremony, competitions and a fireworks finale!
