About the Youth Advisory Council
Vision
We aspire to create an inclusive youth community in the Shire by facilitating active participation of young people and empowering them to be important and respected members of our community, actively contributing to creating a rich culture in the The Hills Shire.
Mission
To have a group of young people who are the core body and voice of youth within the The Hills Shire whose role and responsibility will be to inform Council regarding youth issues and assist council to plan, promote and implement initiatives to benefit youth.
Objectives:
- To act as a conduit for positive promotion of young peoples ideas and achievements.
- To inform the council of the issues confronting young people within the The Hills Shire Council area.
- To actively involve young people in developing and implementing strategies that address the issues affecting young people in the area.
- To build the confidence and skills of young people and resource them in being confident spokespeople on behalf the needs, issues and interests of the diverse population of Hills Shire youth.
- To strengthen youth capacity through building skills in leadership, public speaking consultation and advocacy.
Become a Member
The committee will consist of no more than twelve young people plus Council's Community Development Officer - Youth and the Mayor or his nominee. Membership will be open to young people who live in the The Hills Shire.
Committee members can serve for a maximum of two years.
The Youth Advisory Council will have a Chairperson and a Deputy Chairperson and will meet at least six times a year.
