The Tracks and Trails program is designed to inspire people to get out, be active, and use local open space areas. The Hills Shire boasts a range of beautiful recreation locations including great cycle ways and walking tracks. 

The Hills Shire Council encourages individuals and families to get out and get active and enjoy what the Hills Shire has to offer, below are some

recreational activities for you to enjoy or places of interest you might like to visit.


Track Closures

Upgrade works are currently being carried out on the M2 which passes over Bidjigal and Excelsior Reserves. The Murri-yanna walking track (the main track through Bidjigal and Excelsior Reserves) will be closed under the M2 overpass while M2 upgrade works are being carried out.

The Hills Bushland Walks Program 2012 

 

The Hills Walks Program is designed to provide opportunities for residents to explore and learn more about the beautiful bushland reserves of the Garden Shire.

The walks follow bushland tracks which are sometimes rough, steep and uneven. Some walks require creeks to be crossed on stepping stones. Some walks have no toilet facilities.

All walks last for 2 hours.

What to bring: Wear comfortable, closed shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. For night time walks wear warm clothes and mosquito repellent. Bring your camera and a drink. For night time walks bring a torch.

Meeting Place: The exact meeting place will be advised at the time of booking.

 


 

Tracks & Trails Safety Tips

  • It is the law that all riders and passengers on bicycles must wear an Australian Standards approved helmet that is securely fitted and fastened on the rider’s head.
  • Children under 12 years and older riders accompanying them may ride bikes on the footpath unless there are signs that specifically prohibit cycling.
  • On shared paths and footpaths bicycle riders should always keep to the left.
  • Cyclists should travel at a speed that promotes safety for them and any pedestrians on the path.
  • Cyclists should use their bell to let people know when they are approaching and be careful around young children, dogs and older pedestrians.
