Welcome to The Hills Seniors/Older Adults web page
A senior or older adult is anyone over 55 years of age.
By the year 2021 it is forecast that the number of people aged over 65 years will have had the largest proportional increase. Many more people in our Shire than ever before will be seniors within the next 10 years.
Services will be required to support older adults to remain active and participate in their community through clubs, associations and volunteer activities.
Services will also be required to provide assistance for people to remain independent in their homes and community or to assist people who are frail aged and/or disabled.
Below is information relevant to Older Adults and Seniors in The Hills including Directories, Hills Community Care and The Hills Shire Access Committee.
Active Seniors Directory (182.37kB)
Aged Services Directory (227.03kB)
If you would like information on/or how to obtain a Seniors Card visit: www.seniorscard.nsw.gov.au
Do you know about the Fridge Buy Back Scheme?
If you have a refrigerator that is more than 10 years old and you are still using it as a second fridge, you could save money and could be eligibile for a $35.00 rebate. Click here for more information.
Hills Community Care
Council's business unit that supports the frail aged with a range of services is Hills Community Care.
Food services (Meals of Wheels), gardening and yard maintainance, home maintainance, domestic assistance and community transport for the eldery or disabled can be provided.
For more information about our many Care Services for Seniors in The Hills visit our Hills Community Care webpage. Phone (02) 9761 7600.
Access
The Hills Shire Access Committee
The Hills Shire Access Committee meets regularly to discuss and address physical access issues that older people or people with disabilities face within the Shire.
Members of the committee include representatives from the community, disability services, residents and Council staff. Their role is to support and promote equitable physical access to public buildings and amenities and look into complaints and issues raised by residents of the Shire. In the past these have included concerns about footpaths, accessible parking, kerbing, and access to community facilities or public buildings. The Access Committee is also responsible for monitoring the implementation of Council's Disability Action Plan.
What can you do?
If you are interested in being part of the Access Committee contact Community Planning - Community Planning Coordinator, Gaynor Corfield on 9843 0361 or gcorfield@thehills.nsw.gov.au or Community Development Officer Melinda Gauci on 9843 5149 or mgauci@thehills.nsw.gov.au
