Waste Education and Tours
Council in partnership with its Contactors aims to provide a range of waste education opportunties for the whole community. Please see below for a range of activities and resources already available or contact Council's Waste Education Officer directly on (02) 9843 0505 to discuss specific requests.
The Hills Shire Council also runs a Sustainability Education Program.
School Education Programs
Council recognises the importance of working with local schools regarding the waste management system and ongoing environmental initiatives.
In partnership with Keep Australia Beautiful (NSW) in 2007 local primary students learnt about 'The Wide World of Waste' and looked at the issues of correct bin usage, sorting waste, landfill, recycling and composting in a fun and interactive way.
In 2008, local school children had the opportunity to examine another module titled 'The Mechanics of Organics'. Students were given action-based activities which investigated the differences between composting, worm farming and mulching, and the benefits they provide.
The Council's School Education Programs are available to public, catholic and private school systems. The Council also has a variety of educational resources which are available to teachers and schools on a short term loan basis. These resources are suitable for primary and early secondary year levels and support the NSW Board of Studies syllabus outcomes.
