The Sydney Hills Eagles Captain Jon VlatkoLocals are set to witness a thriller AFL clash when the Sydney Swans fly against North Melbourne Kangaroos at Bruce Purser Reserve in a NAB Cup on Saturday 3 March 2012 at 7pm. In a first for The Sydney Hills, AFL legends will line up to showcase a NAB Cup match that contributes towards winning the pre-season competition.

Local North-East Australian Football League (NEAFL) team, The Sydney Hills Eagles, will be playing a pre-season match against fellow NEAFL competitors the Belconnen Magpies at 3pm before the main game.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Greg Burnett, said the match offers a unique opportunity for locals to see an elite-level game close to home.

“Don’t miss out on tickets - we’re expecting to our biggest crowd ever to see the Swans play North Melbourne at Bruce Purser Reserve,” Mayor Burnett said.

“We love our sport in the Sydney Hills, and AFL is extremely popular both as an active and spectator sport in our region,” he said.

Club Manager of The Sydney Hills Eagles, Tony Moran, said these games would attract significant public attention.

“The Sydney Hills Eagles have been working hard to achieve entry into the NEAFL competition, and are pumped up, ready to take on Belconnen on home turf,” he said.

“We hope locals will come and support the first team from The Sydney Hills to be playing in a national competition, as well as enjoy an elite-level game without having to travel to the city or Homebush,” he said.

“If you’re a Sydney Hills company looking to get your business onto the national stage, here’s a chance to support a local team that will have Foxtel coverage during this year’s season.”

Council previously supported a pre-season match between the Sydney Swans and the Western Bulldogs in the NAB Cup series which coincided with the official opening of the Reserve in 2009.
