Red Bull International Cliff Diving Competition Launch

The jaw-dropping spectacle that is the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series returns to the Sydney Hills in 2012, with the Riverside Oaks Golf Resort in Cattai hosting the qualifying round on Saturday 4 February, 2012.
Proudly supported by The Hills Shire Council, this free event will see competitors attempting breath-taking dives from 27 metres against the stunning backdrop of the Hawkesbury River. Spectators are encouraged to bring their boats to bag the best vantage points of this incredible contest.
Fifteen international divers will travel to Australia to compete in the qualifiers, performing gravity-defying, three-second flights and hitting the water at over 135kph. The four qualifying divers from the event will earn a prestigious spot amongst the world’s best in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. The series runs from June through to September at stops across the globe and is judged by an international panel, with divers awarded scores according to the degree of difficulty and execution of the dive.
The four successful divers will go on to battle for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series title in seven challenging competitions, taking place in extraordinary natural and demanding urban venues in the UK, Norway, the USA and more. 2011’s top seven divers, including two-time champion Gary Hunt from the UK and his predecessor Orlando Duque from Colombia, have all qualified automatically for the fourth edition.
The 2012 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will push the world’s high diving elite to their limits. But the Sydney Hills is where it all begins, and only those who shine on the Hawkesbury will gain the right to compete for the high-diving crown!
You can be a part of 'Float-Fest' on the afternoon with a DJ and event vehicle out on the water from 1pm to get the atmosphere going. People are welcome to bring their own flotation devices (lilo's, boats etc). After the competition the DJ will crank up the tunes again and allow everyone to continue frolicking in the water until dark. There will be a life-guard on duty throughout.
So, set yourself riverside on a picnic chair or view from the water on your floatation device!

The best high divers in the world versus gravity, twisting and flipping 27 metres through the air and hitting the water after three seconds at 85kph. Four years after its inception, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is established as the pinnacle of high diving competition. In 2012 this unique championship will once more be the platform for the world’s most dizzying dives in seven stops between June and September in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Athletes will compete head-to-head for the prestigious World Series title and spread the spirit of cliff diving all over the globe.
