The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series returns to the Hawkesbury River in early February when the all important qualifying round pits fourteen of the best divers from around the globe against each other in the hopes of gaining one of five coveted spots in the eight-part series, kicking off in France in May.
The Hills Shire Council will host the qualifying round at the Riverside Oaks Golf Resort in Sydney’s garden shire suburb of Cattai (NSW) on Saturday 2 February from 3pm. Set high on a picturesque cliff top on the Hawkesbury River, the best high divers will deliver world class action from a platform 27 metres above the Hawkesbury hitting the water at speeds of up to 85kph.
The popular spectator sport has become a calendar favourite with locals flocking to the Hawkesbury River since 2011 to watch the diving action in their own backyard. Australia has also been counted as a favourite location among the divers who enjoy the trip ‘down under’ to compete.
The top three divers from the 2012 series including third-time World Champion Gary Hunt (UK), Orlando Duque (COL) and American Steve LoBue have all automatically qualified for 2013. Competing for the USA since 2009, Kent De Mond Kent de Mond is hoping to gain a podium finish on the Hawkesbury River after narrowly missing out last year, but gaining a spot after a withdrawl from the competiton:

The best high divers in the world versus gravity, twisting and flipping 27 metres through the air and hitting the water after three seconds at 85kph. Five years after its inception, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is established as the pinnacle of high diving competitions.
