Privet out of Cattai
Grant funding through the Environmental Trust and Local Government Advisory Group enabled the success of Cattai Landcare's Privet out of Cattai project to continue throughout 2008.
This project involved a cooperative effort to combat the weed Privet from the Cattai Catchment.
The project commenced with the employment of a Project Officer in September 2006. More than 2,000 landowners in targeted parts of Cattai Creek catchment were invited to participate in the project, which provides assistance and advice in the control of Privet by a professional Bush Regenerator.
In the second stage of the project, there were more than 30 private properties and one school involved, with significant long-term environmental benefits resulting from the control of weeds and the training of landowners in vegetation management.
If you think you have privet and would like to get it identified, take a sample to a local nursery or to the Community Environment Centre on a Thursday.
