The Orange Blossom Festival began in 1969 as a humble garden and footpath competition and has since grown to be one of Australia’s largest community owned and run festivals.
The Festival showcases The Hills Shire’s vibrancy, creativity and community spirit. This year’s Festival will include events that cater for all ages and interests such as music, arts, food fairs, seminars, exhibitions, sporting and animal events, open days, tours, seniors and youth activities, fairs and fireworks.
The Orange Blossom Festival attracts thousands of people each year during the Festival’s 18 days and brings together local community-based events under one banner, offering residents and visitors a large variety of events to enjoy including fairs, senior and youth activities, open days, sporting events, art and garden exhibitions, concerts, food fairs, information seminars, fireworks and much more.

Friends Book Sale - a huge success!
The Friends of the Hills Library held their Annual Bargain Book Sale on 3 and 4 July. They raised over $5600 which will go towards new resources for the library. The Hills Shire Library Service would like to thank all of the volunteers who gave up their time to help out during the book donation days and the book sale.
It is easy to join the Friends of the Hills Library Inc. Simply visit one of our five library branches and complete a membership form.
Membership is $5 per annum and entitles you to:
- Automatic membership to The Hills Shire Library Service
- One free reservation per month (saving of $1.20 per month)
- Volunteer activities at the library
- A discount at the following local businesses - House of Fraser (Castle Towers) & Chapters Cafe (Castle Hill Library)
Membership renewals are now open for 2009/2010 so if you are already a Friend’s member drop into any Hills Shire Library to renew your membership.

Australian Bureau of Statistics Census Data
This resource contains statistics and information derived from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Census of 2001 and 2006. A range of data may be viewed by location or topic in thematic maps or tables. Includes classification counts, community profile data and the 'New South Wales in Focus' publications.
Keep up to date on what is happening in your community, this database is available to access in the library and from home with a Hills Shire Library membership number.

Festival of Active Living Programme
Take part in a series of events aimed to keep you fit and active. This programme will run on the 26, 28 and 30 October at Castle Hill Library with seminars, workshops and displays on Hobbies, Health and Wellbeing and Lifestyle options. Meet guest speakers including Sandra Ross from the Garden Clinic which she runs with Graham Ross and Kevin Hume from the Sydney Meditation Centre. Look out for the full programme in the library and on the website in September.
Kathryn Fox Seminar
Presented by the Friends of the Hills Library as part of the Orange Blossom Festival, bestselling author of Malicious Intent and Skin and Bones, Kathryn Fox, will talk about her latest novel ‘Blood Born’.

Tax Help
Need help preparing your tax return? Accredited Australian Tax Office volunteers will be at the library to provide free advice and help with simple tax returns for those with an income under $40,000.
