Subject: Youth Policy

Objective: To plan, develop and promote community partnerships and a range of services for young people (aged 12-24, in The Hills Shire) to achieve a sustainable future.

Guidelines:
In respect to young people, Council undertakes to:

  1. Plan
    1. Young people are involved in identifying and determining their needs and interests in developing appropriate strategies when planning.
    2. Seek co-operation from government, the community, business and institutions to facilitate effective and equitable use of resources.
    3. Provide an integrated approach to planning which crosses sector boundaries and fosters partnerships.
    4. Provide proactive strategies in order to adequately address the issues facing young people.
    5. Equitable allocation of resources towards youth services.
  2. Develop
    1. Work collaboratively with community organisations to offer support in the development of programs for young people.
    2. Support existing youth networks within the Shire and co-ordinate resources accordingly.
    3. Seek funding opportunities and provide regular information on youth issues.
  3. Promote
  1. Positive image of young people in our community and acknowledge their achievements.
  2. Education for young people and the community on their rights and responsibilities.
  3. Ensure that young people are given a 'fair go' at expressing their opinions and ideas.
  4. Celebrate the individuality of young people, the backgrounds they come from and their future potential through participating in special events i.e. youth week.
  5. Encourage a sense of belonging amongst young people.
