Hills Shire HORSE
Council has been involved in a project, entitled Hills Shire HORSE (Horse Owners Riding to a Sustainable Environment), to foster a closer working partnership with the Shire's horse community. This was initiated from grant funding received from the Department of Environment and Climate Change.
The Hills Shire HORSE provides assistance to the horse community with respect to healthy horse properties and healthy environments.
Hills Horse Poo Co-op
One interesting component is the establishment of the Hills Horse Poo Co-op. This initiative connects those with horse manure and those seeking horse manure.
A spreadsheet has been produced that provides details of the participating horse properties with manure available.

Property Management Planning for Horse Properties
The other component of the Hills Shire HORSE is to assist horse property owners with developing their own Property Management Plan, to lead to a healthy horse property that is good for their horses and the environment, and is an asset to the community.
The Department of Environment & Climate Change has produced a series of booklets entitled 'Environmental Management on the Urban Fringe'. Two of the booklets relate to horse properties and property management planning. Click on the icons of the books below to be directed to the online version.
If you would like a hard copy of these documents, contact Council (details below).
Other useful resources relating to healthy horse-keeping can be found on the HorsesLand and Water website www.horseslandwater.com a non-profit organisation in South Australia.
