Heritage Assistance Fund

The maintenance and conservation of heritage items often requires a greater level of resources and care than more modern buildings. As part of its ongoing commitment to the conservation of the Shire's heritage, Council established a Heritage Assistance Fund (HAF) in 2001.

The aim of the Fund is to:

  • Encourage the conservation of heritage items,
  • Retain the significance of identified heritage items within the Shire,
  • Provide a mechanism to achieve the conservation of specific elements that are considered important to an area such as streetscapes, fences, timber buildings or heritage items located within rural townships; and
  • Promote a greater awareness, understanding and appreciation of heritage within the Shire.

Owners of heritage items listed in the Baulkham Hills Local Environmental Plan 2005 are invited to apply for funding on an annual basis. Each financial year $30,000 is available for allocation. The maximum level of funding per project is $2,000. Funding is issued on a dollar for dollar basis where an owner is required to provide at least matching finance for the projects.

The fund is proving to be beneficial for numerous owners who have taken advantage of the fund so far. Since the fund began in 2001 more than 50 grants worth almost $100,000 have been offered to owners of heritage items.
