Emergency Spill ResponseFat Spill

Should you observe a major spill occurring or notice that one has recently occurred you may report the incident to the NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW), formerly the NSW EPA, to report the incident. DECCW staff can be contacted 24-hours/day via the Pollution Line on 131 555.

In addition, if the emergency spill involves hazardous materials and presents a serious threat to the public, nearby infrastructure or the local environment, the NSW Fire Brigade must be contacted on 000.

Council attends incidents where a serious pollution event has or is likely to occur. Council’s role is to investigate the incident so that the person or company responsible can be identified and prosecuted accordingly.

The actions taken to alleviate the environmental impact include the application of sand to absorb the liquid off the road and the use of absorption socks to contain the spill.

If the spill is not a major one, and involves petrol, chemical, oil or paint, whether deliberate or not, please report to Council's Environmental Health and Sustainability Team during business hours on 9843 0555, and in the instance of it being after-hours please listen to the recorded message for the appropriate phone number.
