Below is a list of bushcare/landcare groups and related organisations who are involved in bush management activities on public and private land in The Hills Shire.

Bushcare volunteers take on the vital role as protector of our fragile bushland environment, preserving natural flora and fauna and removing that which can be harmful to its future. For any bushcare volunteer it's definitely a hands-on role.

 

 


Burnside Bushcare Group - Gollan Avenue Reserve, Kerrie Road, Oatlands

Workdays: The last Sunday of each month, 9am - 12noon


The Hills Shire Bushland Conservation Committee

Is a voluntary Committee of Council formed to assist with the strategic management of the Shire's bushland. The Committee acts as a representative body for voluntary bushcare groups in the Shire. They help facilitate community involvement in bushland management, advise Council on bushland management policies and procedures and assist Council in running the community nursery.  For further information contact Council's Natural Assests Officer.


Bidjiwong Community Nursery - Ted Horwood Reserve Carpark, off Renown Road, Baulkham Hills

The nursery is run by The Hills Shire Council in conjunction with a Community Working Group assisting the Bushland Conservation Committee. The nursery provides plants for Council and community revegetation projects as well as being a focal point for the involvement of the local community in bushland conservation issues. Local residents can use the facilities at the nursery to propagate plants for their own use. Council staff and volunteers can provide assistance and advice. The nursery is open to the public each Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.

Workdays: Volunteer Groups work - Every Thursday and Friday of each month, 8am - 2pm and every third Sunday of each month, 9am - 1pm

The Hills Shire Council Bushcare Co-ordinators

Responsible for supporting all bushcare groups and individuals that work on Council-managed lands. For any information about the groups working with Council support contact the Bushcare Volunteer Program Co-ordinators who work out of the Bidjiwong Community Nursery at Ted Horwood Reserve, off Renown Road, Baulkham Hills.

Landcare

Is a network of people working towards sustainable natural resources and environmental management. Landcare groups are formed by people with a common concern about the quality of the land and water in their local area. Landcare groups operate on private and public land including farms, schools, parks and beaches. The Peri-Urban Landcare Co-ordinator is responsible for the area from Gosford in the north to Picton in the south and within the confines of the Hawkesbury Nepean Catchment. This co-ordinator works with Landcare groups undertaking activities on private or crown lands.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Cumberland Area

The Cattai National Park is an area exhibiting the extensive efforts of bush carers along the banks of the Hawkesbury River and Cattai Creek. Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Trust, Men of the Trees and the Intercontinental Hotel Roofs for Revegetation are active participants and all have planted areas of the park.

A volunteer group involved in bush regeneration, seed collection and propagation, tree planting, forest maintenance and gardening.

Cumberland State Forest, Volunteer Rangers - Cumberland State Forest

A program run to recruit and train people to become volunteers. Activities include bush regeneration, conducting guided walks, forest maintenance and wildlife research. Volunteer rangers learn about State Forest management and participate actively in all aspects of managing Cumberland State Forest. Please note; Volunteer Rangers complete three months of bush regeneration training before undertaking training in Ranger duties.
