Balcombe Heights Child Care Centre is a not-for-profit service for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years. This well-established 40 place centre has been operating for more than 24 years. It is located in the picturesque grounds of Balcombe Heights Estate in Baulkham Hills. The centre is owned by The Hills Shire Council. Hours of operation are from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

The centre offers:

  • spacious indoor and outdoor areas
  • an active parent committee
  • caring, experienced and qualified staff
  • nutritious meals, drinks and snacks prepared by an on-site cook
  • a full school-readiness program
  • monthly visits by educational performers and special events
  • accreditation to high quality standards
  • quiet surroundings
  • animals for the children to observe and care for (stick insects, frogs, fish and hermit crabs)
  • a book library for parents and carers

Outdoor play areas

  • A large beautifully landscaped garden with natural grass is provided, as well as a large covered sandpit and verandah.
  • The array of plants, flowers and trees and nature walk provides the children with natural places to explore and promotes sensory development and imaginative play.

Educational toys and equipment

  • Safe and educational toys are provided to promote age-appropriate language and literacy learning, gross and fine motor skills, social and emotional development, and cognitive skills. The resources develop children’s confidence and skills and provide children with challenges and problem solving opportunities.
  • Parents and carers have access to extensive book resources through a Literacy Program that encourages families to borrow books for the night or for the week.

Children’s programs

  • The Centre supports an emergent curriculum approach which directs the programs of indoor, outdoor and group activities through the immediate interests of each child. Children’s interests are supported and extended by providing resources and experiences through which the children can learn more about the environment around them and their curiosities.
  • Teachers at the Centre individually observe and plan for each child and record these in the child’s day book which families can read and contribute to when they choose.
  • School readiness activities are also provided to help older children transition smoothly to school.
  • The Centre has a focus on multicultural experiences, with activities that incorporate the cultural backgrounds of children attending the centre and other cultures as well.

“The first time I visited Balcombe Heights Childcare Centre I noticed what a serene, nurturing environment my child was entering into. The perfect place for early education to flourish.” - Tanith du Plessis

“When Liam was born, the thought of putting him into child care was killing me, I worried so much about who’s going to do this and is he going to be alright?….On Liam’s first day at child care I almost cried when I left him and I don’t know how many times I contacted the Centre to ask how he was… Liam is now almost 2 years old and he’s become a friendly, independent, smart, confident and happy child. I now realise that I did the right thing for my baby and thanks a lot to all Balcombe Heights Child Care Staff. You guys provided wonderful care for my baby…I would highly recommend the Centre to anyone thinking putting their baby or child into child care.” - Ruby Hammond
