Roxborough Park Rose Garden

The Alfred Henry Whaling Memorial Reserve Rose Garden was established in 1972 and is regarded as one of the largest of its kind in the Sydney region, occupying over 8000 square metres.  The original concept design for the gardens was prepared by the Senior Landscape Designer of the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The retaining walls, constructed of natural rock have created four terraces bisected by a flight of steps finished in Cowra Slate.  The circular rotunda provides an ideal retreat to admire the display of climbing scented roses while the grassed open area allows a place to rest and admire the beauty of the gardens.

There are more than 100 varieties to view, with many examples being donated by local nurseries and rose societies.  Each rose has been placed to provide maximum colour contrast, coupled with the distinctive array of perfumes.  Some of the special roses on display are the Australian Bi-Centennial Rose, The Hills Shire Council Rose and the Olympic Gold Rose.

The Rose Gardens can be booked for wedding ceremonies or photo's for a fee. This can be booked through Council's Parks Liaison Officer on 9761 4579.
